Community Assistance Team |

The Community Assistance Team (CAT) is a volunteer organization sponsored by Big Canoe Chapel to assist Chapel members and others who are in need.
CAT volunteers offer a variety of services, including driving people to doctors’ appointments, driving them to hospitals for therapy and picking up prescriptions at local drug stores. One of the greatest and most frequent services provided by CAT volunteers is preparing and delivering meals to folks who are recuperating from surgery or illness, family emergency or loss of a loved one.
Sometimes a person who is homebound needs someone to stay with them
while a primary caregiver runs an errand or gets some "time off.” The
CAT team also has a list of nurses and caregivers who can be hired to
provide professional care on a round the clock basis. We also have
many medical supplies such as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, etc.,
that we lend to those in need.
The community of Big Canoe is fortunate in many ways, not the least
of which is the Chapel’s CAT program begun in 1994 by Jean Armstrong, a
former resident and member of the Chapel staff. Frankie Rehg served in this capacity on the Chapel staff for a number of years, retiring in May 2009.
The CAT program has
helped many Big Canoe residents over the years.
If you are interested in being a driver, running errands, sitting,
or preparing a meal, please call a contact person to get on the list of
CAT volunteers. What a wonderful way to be involved in your community
and to help others.
The Community Assistance Team is always willing to help in any
emergency or short-term situation; however, the Team is not equipped
for long-term care.
For more information please the Chapel Office (706) 268-3203.
